Grime's dead, BUT will never die.

Whether you are still actively involved,
supporter, Mc, producer or Dj,
or just listen now and then,
but not too much?

Whether you haven't listened to grime  since Crazy Titch went in, & the legendary Esco passed away.

Grime is alive !!!!
... although the 'scene' we all once knew
is dead. Here's why..

i've mc'd since about 2001.
Grime is about 2-3 (gradational) generations deep,
(in terms of elders, olders and youngers.)

Amazingly, the most important concept, and catalyst to Grimes progress,
which validates the necessity of a
'Grime' in the first place, our ideology & reason we all 'collectivly identified'
.....is MIA, (missing in action)
absent, near forgotton, by those who we entrusted with grimes leadership.

In my opinion, this 'Grime scene' has become far more focused on the 'individual succssess' rather than our 'collective goal'.

Not crew collective, but sticking to & with our 'collective narrative'

"what's the collective narrative???"

Since Dizzy left Roll deep, or Kano left Nasty crew behind, right up to the 'individual' Mobo award for new mc stormzee.

Our scene suffers, everytime 'they' &
'we' reward the individual,
we steadily negate the necessity for a 'Scene'
Without the collective scene,
each individual with respected fanbase,
where would grime be?

You see everytime these Mcs, Djs or Producers forget their roots, or are somewhat coerced into abandoning 'political responsibilities
(to support the scene)
..a new narrative, nex gen -individual aim,
and destination, is set.
Further eroding and already erroded grime scene.

So people, youngers and even Grime foudation Mc and producers,
lemme share suttin...

Please understand that, Grime is our platform, as a British underclass, low income, marganlised & misrepresented society.

Grimes distinctive & outstanding attributes, are it's ability to collectivly speak on behalf of; and encompass our demographic, in the UK.

'the endz' 'the blocks' 'the hood'
was a voice, a reality they never wanted to admt existed, and tried to shutdown, back in grimes formative years.

Our mere existence remains an act of rebellion!

Grimes place in the music industry,
is NOT in the music industry. (full stop)
the dynamics to grime just don't work
when the impetus is money.

We move forward far better independently, underground & raw, and importantly when we own our tings,
'set and dictate our own narrative'.

However, for me, and the reason i stopped Mcing, is that Grime has become no more than a 'breeding ground' for record labels, pop stars, and journalistic social media, leaches to dip into and make a quick quid.

They've re-defined Grime
to almost become the UK urban industry
  'reserve team'.
'bignames' in music only ever collab
to gain some 'street cred'.
we are now in the paws of an industry only ever giving kudos to the Multi-talented commercially viable, Artists, before moving on, and leaving the once, 29 man set, dizzy vs titch, monksta "it's time for the crack down", hyper "hench and black" Griminal "boy better know e13" esco get back draw for the mac, stormin one little summer just chilling in bow, workouts on and...
(sorry, sorry i got carried away)

... that scene, dead in the water.
dead as a duck.
Minimal fans. No structure.
That which does exist now is an quite simply an embarrassment.

(My assertions (points of view) are in comparative relation to the early days of grime. I tottally respect that some new Mcs and Djs are doing alot of current work within grime)

The Motive

See, you've forgotten that we MC, produce and DJ, to amplify our indigantion towards our social positioning and british class struggle.
that's nothing you have to research, because no doubt you and me live it everyday, it's that feeling of
'fuck this life'

Yes the few succsses's have given us a uk urban platform in the music industry, yes.
...but still simultaneously we've overlooked the maintainance to what we built to support & facilitate the nex gens first few steps up the ladder.
(the grime scene)

However Grime, (as a culture)
(what we mc about)
will Never die, as long as we remain in the same socio-economical position,
as long as our environments, the endz, our money troubles, & street lifestyles are strategically maintained & perpetuated...

...As long as the rich want to stay rich, there will always be an extremely despondant poor- underclass
who demand their voice be heard.

This is us
Grime is that 'productive protest' against
'in-equality'
it's your platform to rebel and resist.
this is what you stand for when you Mc
or Dj or Make Grime Beats/Music!

So good news is, further generations of Grimesters & uk rappers are undeterred and getting involved. Which for someone like me who mc'd since 2000, and was told i'd never see this day in england, a dream come true - we've collectively created a platform for our people!!

Problem is, those at lead, rarely regulate or maintain the longevity of the
'grime carear' - which leads the Mc to chase 'Artiststatus long before his time.

It's going to take some of the wiser, older heads to remember themselves,
to lead grime as a DICTATORSHIP, rather than a semi-democracy, to remember why wiley or dizzy ever started to MC, where danny weed, terra danja or jammer derived the inspiration from to ever make beats.

To train the eye to identify & understand that 'outside forces', disguised as poor and struggling, disguised as 'well wishers' are infiltrating and aiding the self-implosion of a once Great Grime scene.

Understand why Grime exists,
and then play your role in it!

Your political purpose, social purpose,
communal purpose. your inter-generational purpose. (helping the youngers tru)

How do we 'revive' the Grime scene,
you ask?????

Get off twitter, stop chasing fame
& start playing your positions!

Fly your 'Grime flag' at 'full sail',
not at 'half mast'...
